Day Eleven to Fifthteen

Last week I didn't get to the place I wanted to be which was launching a couple of Click bank sites because to tell you the truth I was being hounded by my fiancee to do housework and to launch a house husband website.
That website is www.thehappyhousehusband.com and I monetized that using the amazon affiliate program.
So far I have one click for a product and I only listed 4 products amongst the blog.  This one click didn't purchase anything but its more clicks than I have had through the google affiliate program.  Also with google the amount of money you can get per click is alot lower than the 4-6% you can get through Amazon.  This week I am going to try and make an electronic store on some product line that amazon offers and see if I can get some more clicks.

Day Ten

Great News,

I went and checked my blog this afternoon and low and behold there are google adsense ads on the right hand column, which must mean they approved me. Yesterday afternoon I was getting down hearted when I read that Google doesn't approve blogs that are newer than six months old. Obviously this is not the case in all situations because they certaintly have approved me here, however no amount of money has yet been made :( oh well early days yet.

I also successfully signed up to click-bank which is an online affiliate that allows you to promote other peoples products on your website for a slice of the product cost.

E.g Under the category "home and family" there are a bunch of products such as:
  • GreenDiyEnergy which touts itself as a way to make your own solar panels for a low cost of $200 - if you manage to sell them the secret to doing this you can earn yourself $31.97 per sale.
I haven't tried this route yet because I haven't decided if I want to set up micro niche blogs and then sell them off or setup subdomains under my main domain and then keep them going.

To be honest the amount of things an Internet Marketeer does on a daily basis is quite incredible and it shows that there is money to be made but that it does require some actual nitty gritty work.

Anyhoo im off to create a Amazon Affiliate account as one of my friends has had some success at selling some books and things from them and hopefully I will too.

Day Nine

I read a few more blogs and forums about how to make money online today, the amount of information out there is just phenomenal. I was still awaiting my google adsense account to be approved so in terms of actual ground being made - nothing was really happening. I had an old domain however that was being hosted for me in New Zealand and I was paying for it still. Being that i have a dreamhost account paid up for a year I decided to invest the time to transfer it over. Its all said and done now and I've created a new blog on there about being a house husband. If you are interested you can find this at http://happyhousehusband.markplayer.com.

Other than that I read a good guide about niche blogging and flipping websites which apparently can make you a six figure income - I'm yet to believe that is true until I make my first $1, $10, or $100 a month.

To be honest trying to get things started online is getting bogged down really with the fact that I have to cook and clean each day for my family. Luckily I don't have kids yet or I would really be bogged down and have no time for an online life at all.

Anyway I better end this post as I have to go and iron some more clothes...

Day Eight

Today I started off by reading a bunch of webmaster websites. There really is so much information out there it is quite hard to get your head around all of it. I came across a bunch of forums that had tips on how to improve web blogs, and monetize them. Also some people were talking about different income related streams of how to make the internet profitable for you.

My first order of business for the day was to check on my adsense account. Its still awaiting approval - I dont know how long it takes to get approved but im hoping not too long. I then submitted both my sites into the google webmaster tools
I have another blog site called www.calgaryconsumerbeware.com which is an outlet for my familys constant struggle for good quality retail service in Calgary, Canada.
After inserting something in the header part of both blogs I am able to see how many hits I am getting from both, however this particular blog hasnt been searched by google yet so maybe in a few days it show up.

My next order of business was to create a paypal account for my online activities, this allows me to be paid by the freelancing sites and by some affiliate vendors etc.

One of the posts I read on a forum is about website flipping. Basically you start a blog or a website, add a bunch of articles about the subject, monetize it with either adsense or some other affiliate marketing and then when starts making 1 - 2$ a day you can sell it at www.flippa.com or some alternative like it. It sounds pretty easy and I haven't tried it yet but maybe when i find some different niches I will.

Other than that I continued to search for an offline job, put up a bunch of ads on ebay of unneeded household items and worked through my chore list.

Day Seven

The need for Change:

This morning I woke up and decided I needed to change, the world wasnt going to change for me - I needed to change for the world. I got up and started reading websites that would help me achieve this goal. My friends that were entrepreneurs had suggested free lancing websites might serve as a good way to get challenging work while introducing myself to ways that i could upskill myself and get paid.

I signed up to the following:

I then browsed the work opportunities on each site and found out that by building a profile and selecting some different categories, i.e System administration, Cisco and Data Entry that I would be able to receive notifications direct to my email.

Each opportunity has a bidding section where you post a brief note about what you can do and how much you would like to get paid for the job.

I also started reading up about SEO and Internet marketing. I read that by placing google adsense and amazon ads on your website you can earn money from people buying products or clicking ad links from your site. From my understanding these are called "leads" and if a lead turns into a actual deal then you get money from it.

I.e If you put a book review on your website and someone comes along and reads it and wants to buy the book they click the amazon link and purchase the book then you get a certain % of the sale. Amazon is known to be quite high for their payouts, I spoke to a friend tonight that was making about 4-6% from each resulting sale.

I plan to cover how you add google adsense and amazon ads to your blog in a later post - perhaps in Day Eight or Nine if I have enough time.

Day Six

I got up bright and early, prepared myself for the interview, dressed well and made myself presentable. I arrived early at the recruitment firm and I was fairly relaxed. Sandy introduced myself to her and we sat in an office overlooking the rest of the downtown.

She told me that my situation was unique and similar at the same time, unique in the fact that I am on a working visa and my sponsored place of employment had just restructured me and similar because I had just joined the boat of other people just like myself that the company was representing. There are approximately 18 positions in my town for the type of work that I do which is Network/System administration. Problem is there is also about 200-500 people looking for the same type of positions in town. And most of these employers are going to want to hire without the additional paperwork that it would take me to be onboard legally.

So in essence she was telling me I was pretty screwed.

Day two - Day five

The following days I was a little more relaxed. I did the following:
  • Cleaned up the whole house
  • Winterized the garden
  • Made some contacts with local recruiters
  • Read my book
  • Played some computer games
  • Got winter tires for the car
  • and a whole host of other small chores that needed to be done
I had made an appointment to see a recruitment agent in the city to see what the situation was like, the recession it seemed had hit pretty hard and I had become just another statistic.
